As its name suggests, for much of its history Bexleyheath was heath land, with the Romans building a through road (Watling Street) which connected Dover and London.

Bexleyheath, like many suburban areas in Greater London now features a diverse range of architectural styles reflecting its historical development.

Bexleyheath still has a significant number of Victorian and Edwardian era houses but as a result of substantial growth during the interwar a large number of new properties were built with mock-Tudor detailing, leaded windows, and gabled roofs. 

In the 1930's Feakes & Richards built Bostall Park Estate and developed several 'types' of properties in the area which can still be see across the Bexley borough to this day.

Post World War II, Bexleyheath saw the construction of new housing estates with a mix of terraced, semi-detached, and bungalow-style properties. These homes typically feature modernist influences, including flat roofs, asymmetrical facades, and open-plan layouts.
